Keep It Simple Stupid is good advice, it was Bill Clinton’s favourite motto – although Keep It In Your Pants Stupid might have been more pertinent. Many marketing websites use the ‘About Us’ page to spout jargon, to confuse and obfuscate; “specialists in holistic, consumer initiated, marketing-focused, brand driven, communication” – that sort of thing. You won’t find that here. We’ll keep it simple, not Daily Sport Sudoku simple you understand, just clear.
IT’S GOOD TO TALK
On this page we’ve tried to answer all the questions you might like to ask about Positive Advertising. But, if there’s anything we’ve left out, or is not clear, please feel free to give us a ring (the number’s top right) and we’ll be more than happy to talk. In these days of e-comms and ‘txt spk’, it’s refreshing to get an old-fashioned ‘phone occasionally.
WHAT WE DO
There’s a big clue in the agency name! For many years, that’s exactly what we did – advertising across Shropshire, Mid Wales and the West Midlands. All the bread and butter stuff of B2B and B2C marketing – press and radio, media buying, DM, brochures and graphic design. Then the business world got more complicated, more strategic and suddenly very much more online – all ecommerce this, web marketing that. Now, well let’s say we offer a more rounded service.
WHAT’S OUR HISTORY?
Positive Advertising Ltd is an independent company, founded 20 years ago, originally as a media buying and service agency. The agency has since evolved to meet the challenges posed by modern marketing by investing heavily in creativity (traditional and online) and by offering a brand consultancy service.
WHERE ARE WE?
Positive Advertising operates out of a single site from offices opposite the historic Shrewsbury Abbey; the setting for Ellis Peters’ Brother Cadfael books and also home to Charles Darwin before he penned ‘Origin of Species’. Many local people will give you an argument about which author wrote the finer fiction – it’s that sort of town.
WHAT SIZE IS THE BUSINESS?
On a good day there are 10 of us in the office, the usual mix of account and client handling, designers and copywriters, online marketers, PR, admin and finance. Although who is doing what varies from day to day.
OUR SERVICES
Traditional advertising and PR still play a part, but the world has moved on and clients prefer the rapier of online marketing to the blunderbuss of traditional press advertising. They say that modern marketing now has more ‘e’s than an old skool Ibiza rave – email marketing, ecommerce solutions. So why do clients love it so much? Online is trackable, cost controlled and analytics measured. It’s more bang for your buck.
For us that has meant upping our game and re-skilling. What have we added? Well web design and hosting, obviously, but that’s only a small part of the e-commerce mix. Our Back Office systems control more than just web content. Almost all of Positive Advertising’s own business exists online – from artwork proofing / client areas, to workflow and chargeable time allocation, CRM and a host of other applications. We offer the same to all our clients. Each back office application is customised to individual client needs – reservation and payment gateways, catalogue and shipping systems, anything. Who needs paper?
Of course Adwords pay-per-click campaigns, SEO services and e-marketing are also part of the mix.

INTEGRATION IS THE KEY TO KEEPING CLIENTS HAPPY
Giving a client what they want is a great way to let them down. Our job instead is to give a client what they need – even if they have no idea what that is at the time. That’s what a Brand Consultancy’ does. We look beyond the approach for a new logo or PR campaign to see what’s really needed, see the bigger integrated picture of online and offline marketing working together. Then we make a case and argue it (obsessively if necessary) balancing cost and benefit over the short / medium and long-term.
